Is Halloween harmless fun or a spiritual trap?
For those who believe in the true God, this topic should be very important.
So let’s see what the Bible says.
The Origin of Halloween
Halloween originates from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. People believed that on this night the spirits of the dead returned to earth, so people dressed in masks and lit bonfires to scare away evil spirits.
The Catholic Church attempted to Christianize this holiday, introducing All Saints’ Day (All Hallows’ Day) and its eve—All Hallows’ Eve—from which the word Halloween originated.
However, the roots of this holiday remained pagan, based on the cult of the dead and spirits.
There are several versions of how Celtic tribes celebrated November 1st.
Some say that on this day, the spirits of the dead roamed the land, seeking people to inhabit for the next year. Therefore, residents dressed in old, ugly clothes and waited in the dark for the ghosts. They would set out food in front of their houses to appease them.
Other sources claim that, according to the teachings of Celtic priests – the druids – demons, spirits of darkness, and the god of death take possession of the entire land. To gain their favor, a lit skull should be placed in front of the house. When the spirits see such symbols, they know that the inhabitants of the house recognize them as gods in power.
Other residents dressed in skins and painted their faces, imitating menacing spirits.
How is Halloween celebrated today?
Parents dress their children in various costumes and join in the fun.
Adults buy masks and rent costumes to „enjoy” the holiday and have a good time. In the evening, entire families stroll the streets. Children knock on doors of houses with outdoor lights and receive gifts of candy and other sweets.
Houses must be decorated with crosses, graveyards, and evil spirits, and outside, there are illuminated pumpkins with the face of an evil spirit carved into them.
What are people celebrating by participating in Halloween?
In the past, people dressed up to scare away spirits, appease them, and recognize them as their gods. They still do this today…
In the past, spirits were supposed to prowl around houses, checking who served them faithfully. Decorated houses indicated that their followers lived there.
Today, children and their parents only enter houses that are decorated and lit. They are given gifts.
Is all this just a game, innocent fun?
Some believe the entire holiday is a game with demons, others believe that the spirits of the dead hover around them, so they want to appease them.
If you’ve read the Bible, dear reader, you’re familiar with the verse that says that the dead do not wander the earth. They do not appear to others, whether awake or asleep.
Why?
Because after the death of the physical body, the spirit awaits God’s judgment. It has neither senses, will, nor reason:
“And just as it is appointed for men to die once (physical death), and after that comes judgment.” – Hebrews 9:27
“For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing at all, neither have they any longer any reward, for the memory of them is forgotten. (…) Whatever work your hand finds, do it with all your might. For there is no work, no understanding, no knowledge, no wisdom in Sheol, where you are going.” – Ecclesiastes 9:5,10
What do the above verses imply?
Very important information.
According to the Bible, some people deceive themselves by saying that a person’s spirit wanders the earth after death.
This is not the case.
A person’s spirit does not wander or manifest itself because it has no senses, will, or understanding. A person dies once and then awaits judgment.
So who is Halloween for?
What is the purpose of children and adults dressing up?
For whom do they decorate their homes and apartments?
There can be only one answer:
„They sacrifice to demons, and not to God. I do not want you to have anything to do with demons.” – 1 Corinthians 10:20
Adults and children participating in any form of Halloween are worshiping… deities, demons, and satan. If you send your child to a Halloween party, you are giving them permission to be possessed by demons. If you participate in such a party yourself, you are acting contrary to the teachings of the Bible. If you decorate your home with pumpkins and other Halloween decorations, you are placing yourself under the protection of demons and satan. This isn’t just innocent fun. Satan uses many tricks to lead people away from God. The Bible tells us that satan disguises himself as an angel of light:
“…for satan himself masquerades as an angel of light” – 2 Corinthians 11:14.
Let’s see the next verses…
„There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or daughter pass through the fire, or a soothsayer, or a fortuneteller, or a sorcerer, or a charmer, or a medium, or a medium of enchantment, or a medium of mediumship, or a medium of divination, or a medium of the dead. For whoever does these things is an abomination to YHWH.” – Deuteronomy 18:10–12
The Bible clearly shows that any contact with spirits, fortune tellers, or the dead is forbidden. The dead cannot communicate with the living, and phenomena attributed to the spirits of the dead are actually the work of demons. Halloween promotes symbols of darkness—ghosts, death, fear, and demonic images. It is the antithesis of the Kingdom of God, which is based on light, peace, and the teachings of Yeshu:
“God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.” – 1 John 1:5.
“Have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.” – Ephesians 5:11.
“You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons.” – 1 Corinthians 10:21
What is Halloween?
Halloween is not an innocent holiday, a fun time, a party, or a get-together with friends. In its origins and symbolism, it remains a pagan ritual that exalts death, fear, and ghosts. The Bible calls on believers to refrain from participating in such practices, but to abide in the light of Yeshu, who has conquered darkness.
„For He has delivered us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of the Son of His love” – Colossians 1:13.
