The Memorial of Death. The Important Date of the Memorial. God’s Important Time — Part 3

8 – How to calculate the date of the Memorial today?

We’re checking when the new moon occurs at the turn of March and April. The new moon marked the beginning of the month. In chapters 6 and 7, we discussed how to accurately calculate 1 Aviv, the first day of the month. Now we move on to the next calculations. Now that we know the date of the new moon: March 19, or 1 Aviv, we now calculate 14 Aviv, in accordance with the Biblical commandment:

In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month, at evening you shall eat unleavened food until the twenty-first day of the month at evening” – Exodus 12:18.

In the first month/new moon (chôdesh, Strong’s H2320), on the fourteenth day of the month, between the two evenings, is the Passover to YHWH. And on the fifteenth day of the month/new moon (chôdesh, Strong’s H2320) is the Feast of Unleavened Bread to YHWH; for seven days you shall eat only unleavened bread” – Leviticus 23:5-6.

Contrary to appearances, calculating the date isn’t as simple as it may seem. The problem is that there are two ways to calculate it. Those who don’t understand this will sometimes calculate the date correctly, and sometimes incorrectly.

How do we calculate the 14 days?

There are two ways to calculate the first day of Aviv.

First method – (day one/day one – counting by evening): calculating using biblical mathematics – by evening.

Second method – (day zero – counting by days): calculating using modern mathematics – by days.

9 – Two ways to count the date of the Memorial: day 1 – day 0

We will analyze these two methods.

9.1 First method (day one/day one – counting in the evenings): calculating with Biblical mathematics – in the evenings.

This method involves counting the days according to the Biblical method, i.e., in the evenings. If the new moon falls on March 19th, then the 19th evening is the first day, March 20th is the second day, March 21st is the third day, and so on. Using this method of counting, the Memorial falls on April 1st.

9.2 Second way (day zero – counting by days): calculating with today’s mathematics – by days.

This method involves counting by days. If the new moon falls on March 19th, then the first day is March 20th, the second day is March 21st, and the third day is March 22nd. With this method of counting, the Memorial falls on April 2nd.

The evening counting method is consistent with Biblical commandments, as the day began at evening.

The day counting method is the current global method. Today, the day begins after midnight. Therefore, with this method, the day of the new moon is not counted; it is day zero. The counting begins on the day following the new moon.

In principle, there can be no contradiction here.

Since Christ celebrated Passover on the 14th of Aviv after sunset, this means he used the first method, which is counting in the evenings. The second method: counting by days with day zero is modern mathematics.

The choice of the first method is obvious, because we are copying what Christ did. Remember that the Biblical day/day begins in the evening:

The Bible does not know the concept of „day zero”; it counts days from the evening, as first, second, third, etc. The order of creation is: „And there was evening, and there was morning—one day” – Genesis 1:5.

9.3 – Is the full moon a problem?

If the Memorial falls on a full moon, does that mean it should be moved up by one day?

Both the full moon and the new moon are phases created by God. Even if satanists perform their rituals during that time, it’s not our problem. The Memorial cannot be moved up just because the world has its own holiday then. That would be arbitrary and would be putting us above God.

Let’s see when the full moon falls on April 1 and 2, 2026:

10 – New Moon – Biblical Evidence

In Chapter 7, we considered the new moon in detail. We answered the questions: is it a new moon when there is no moon or a new moon when a crescent moon appears? And which method is better for checking for a new moon: the percentage of moonlight or the conjunction.

Let’s also add this verse to our discussion. It is very important because it defines what a new moon is:

Blow the horn (shofar/trumpet) at the new moon (chodesh, H2320: new moon/beginning of the month), at the full moon/covering (keseh, H3677: full moon/appointed time/covering/covering), on the day of our feast/holiday” – Psalms 81:3.

The word 3677 is very interesting. It is most often translated as full moon, but this word comes from 3680, which means covering:

H3677 כֶּסֶא/כֶּסֶה (kese/keseh) — „full moon / appointed time (holiday)” (etym.: comes from H3680 „to cover”) → PNP: „keseh: full moon / appointed time.”

H3680 כָּסָה (kasah) — „to cover / conceal / hide” → PNP: „kasah: to cover / conceal.”

From this it follows that the translation of this verse can also be:

Blow the trumpet on the new moon, in the covering (veil, concealment – H3677), on the day of our feast” – Psalm 81:3.

This is very interesting Biblical evidence, which tells us that the new moon is an occultation of the moon, not a rising moon.

The new moon is the first day of Aviv. We use the word „day.” We could just as easily use the word „day.” The day or day of the current calendar begins after midnight. The biblical day/day begins in the evening after sunset. Therefore, the new moon is the first evening, the first day from which we count the 14th of Aviv.

Another important tip is determining the day of the new moon. If we use the tool of lunar illumination percentage, websites provide different dates. The problem is that the percentage of lunar illumination is an imprecise date, calculated differently by websites.

A more accurate tool for calculating the new moon is the lunar conjunction.

The astronomical conjunction of the moon with the sun occurs on March 19, 2026, at 01:23 UTC. After taking into account local time zones, the new moon is:

Warsaw (CET = UTC+1): March 19, 2026, 2:23 AM.

Jerusalem (IST = UTC+2): March 19, 2026, 3:23 AM.

New York (EDT = UTC−4): March 18, 2026, 9:23 PM.

In other words, the new moon falls on March 19, and this day is the first day of the 14th Aviv calculation:

The Memorial of Death: A 19-Year Jewish Cycle—Part 2

This is important because God has given us a precise date: the 14th of Aviv. Therefore, we cannot miscalculate the Memorial and set it on the 15th of Aviv or some other date just because we are counting incorrectly.

We could also say this: what is truly most important is spiritual participation in the Memorial, not calculating the date.

Yes, but…

Since God gave us the date of the 14th of Aviv, and Christ respected it and celebrated Passover on the evening of the 14th, which He changed into the Memorial of death, then we cannot ignore it, but rather submit to God’s principles:

Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord” – 1 Corinthians 11:27.
