These are very important questions. Since the Father is God and the Son is also called God, do we have two Gods: a greater and a lesser one?
Let’s look at the verses.
The Father is called the only true God:
“This is eternal life: to know You, the only true God, and Yeshu Christ, whom You have sent.” – John 17:3.
The Son was also called – true God:
“We know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, that we may know what is true; and we are in what is true, in His Son Yeshu Christ. He is true God and eternal life” – 1 John 5:20.
In this verse we have two Gods. Christ as the Word and God the Father:
„In the beginning was (past imperfect tense) the Word; the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him (second past perfect tense), and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, the glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and glory” – John 1:1-4 and 14.
And the following verses where Christ is called God:
„And Thomas answered Him, My Lord and my God” – John 20:28.
„To the Son (he said), Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your Kingdom” – Hebrews 1:8.
„Waiting for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Yeshu Christ” – Titus 2:13.
Do we have two Gods?
The above verses say that Christ is true God and the Father is true God.
These verses should be accepted with humility.
We know that there are many branches of Christianity that do not consider Christ to be God. However, in order to confirm their theses, they would have to remove some verses from the Bible.
So we have:
• God the Father – “The Only True God”.
• The Son – who received the glory of God, which is why He is: “True God”.
Let us remember that everything comes from God the Father. It was He who gave the divine glory to the Son. This divine glory is why Thomas could say: „My Lord and my God”. And God the Father addresses the Son: „Your throne, O God…”. It is God the Father as the One God who, at His discretion, can give other characters the divine glory. This divine glory that He gave to the Son means that He can be called God. This glory can be given and taken away. We have the example of Moses, who was a god to the pharaoh:
And YHWH said unto Moses, Behold, I have made thee as god unto pharaoh, and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet” – Exodus 7:1.
It is God the Father who gives others the glory of God. However, no one is able to take ANYTHING away from or give ANYTHING to God the Father. He has everything. He is the only such God, with such a status, with such a hierarchy. That is why we have many verses that say one God:
“One/unity (1520) God and Father of all, Who is above all, and through all, and in all” – Ephesians 4:6.
The second most important Figure in the universe is the Son. He was the first created Figure. He has appeared and appears among others as: YHWH, Son of Man, Messiah, Christ, Yeshu, Lamb, King, Ruler, God.
There is a hierarchy in Heaven
Christ says that „the Father is greater than I am” (John 14:28). This means that the Son is subject to the Father, which makes Him „less” in the sense of function, or position in the hierarchy of heaven.
„For it is written in your law, that the testimony of two men is trustworthy. I testify about Myself, and the Father who sent Me testifies about Me. Then they said to Him, 'Where is Your Father?’ Yeshu answered and said, 'You know neither Me nor My Father. If you knew Me, you would know My Father also.'” – John 8:17-19.
“…I go to the Father, because the Father is greater than I Am” – John 14:28.
“For I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of the woman is the man, and the head of Christ is God.” – 1 Corinthians 11:3.
„Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him a name which is above every name, that at the name of Yeshu every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things on earth, and things under the earth” – Philippians 2:9-10.
The hierarchy in heaven places the Son in a lower position than the Father. But it is God who has raised the Son to the divine form.
What does „one” mean?
„I pray not only for them, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one/unity (1520), as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You, that they also may be one/unity (1520) in Us, that the world may believe that You have sent Me. And the glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one/unity (1520) as We are one/unity (1520)” – John 17:20-22.
„But all these things work as one/in unity (1520) and the same Spirit, distributing to each one individually as He wills.
For as the body is one/united/in unity (1520) and has many members, yet all the members of the body, being many, are one/unity/united (1520) body, so also is Christ;
for also by one Spirit we were all immersed into one/unity/united (1520) body, whether Judeans or Helenians (Greeks), whether slaves or free, and were all made to drink of one/unity/united (1520) Spirit.
For even the body is not one/in unity/united (1520) member, but many” – 1 Corinthians 12:11-14 (Jeszu.org).
The word number 1520 is most often translated in the Bible as „one”. However, this word, in addition to „one” also means: „unity/united”. The Father and the Son are two different Persons, but they are one, a unity just as Christ is one, a unity with His assembly.
The Bible can call both the Father and the Son „Lord” and „God”
We have many verses that are difficult for us to understand. In such a situation, let us remember this principle:
“and all that is Mine is Yours, and Yours is Mine…” – John 17:10.
The Son and the Father may have the same names, titles, and the same designations. This is why some verses may be difficult and incomprehensible to us. Let’s see examples:
“Hear, O Israel, YHWH is our God –YHWH is one/only/unity” – Deuteronomy 6:4.
“For there is One/unity/united (1520) God, and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Yeshu” – 1 Timothy 2:5.
“Then Yeshu said, First, listen, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is One/unity(1520)” – Mark 12:29.
“You know that there is one/unity(1520) God, you do well, the demons also believe and tremble” – James 2:19.„for us it is one/one/unity(1520) God the Father, from whom are all things and we for Him, and one/one/unity(1520) the Lord Yeshu Christ, through whom are all things and we through Him” – 1 Corinthians 8:6.
„I and the Father Are one/united/unity(1520)” – John 10:30.
Summary
1 – The Father was called true God (John 17:3) and the Son was called true God (1John 5:20).
2 – There is a hierarchy in Heaven, which is why the Son is lower than the Father (John 14:28).
3 – Where in the Bibles we have the word “one”, i.e. one God, this word also means: “unity and one”. Therefore, we need to check the meaning of a given verse.
4 – We also have verses from which it is clear that there is one God. Let us take into account the fact that there is one Son, just as there is one Father. However, we have more Gods (“there are many gods and many lords” – 1 Cor 8:5).
• The Father is the only such God, the highest of all.
• The Son is God by the appointment He received from the Father.
It is similar with the word “Lord”.
5 – “one Lord, one faith, one immersion” – Ephesians 4:5. In Corinthians it says that there are many lords, and in Ephesians it says that there is one Lord.
And yet the Bible calls:
• Christ Lord (1 Corinthians 8:6).
• YHWH – Lord (Deuteronomy 10:17).
• Father – Lord (Mark 12:29).
Why?
Because they are all one.
